Terri Negus, the founder and director of the Fellowship of Professional Celebrants was the first in the U.K. to offer a fully dedicated training programme for Independent Celebrants, something which she provided here after extensive personal experience as a celebrant and having invested vast amounts of time and money in her own training, travelling to both the USA and Australia to study with the worlds most experienced celebrant trainers and bereavement specialists, so there are few in the U.K. who share her knowledge, experience and wisdom as a celebrant. The FPC offers long-standing certified celebrant training courses that are recognised for their comprehensive and relevant content, as well as expert tuition and ongoing support. Step 3: Enrolling in a Celebrant Course
FPC offers a range of celebrant courses tailored to different types of ceremonies:

- CERTIFICATE IN FUNERAL CELEBRANCY: This course focuses on the skills required to conduct compassionate and respectful Funeral and Memorial ceremonies. You’ll learn how to sensitively support grieving families, create & deliver meaningful tributes. You’ll have a deeper understanding in the most sensitive and emotional funeral, for example those who have taken their own life’s, baby and children’s funerals, and those who have been murdered. We will also teach you the logistics of funeral services, for example the different music systems used in crematoria and cemetery chapels, preparing order of service sheets, and different committal processes.
- CERTIFICATE IN MARRIAGE & FAMILY CELEBRANCY. This course covers weddings, renewal of vows, baby naming ceremonies, and looks at how we can adapt Celebrancy to mark many other events and milestones in both our personal and professional lives. As well as gaining expertise in crafting personalised ceremonies, you’ll fully understand the difference between the legal and ceremonial side of a wedding, learn the importance of being a diverse and inclusive celebrants, and we will also give you advice and guidance on marketing and promoting your business to help get you off to a flying start.
Step 4: Gaining Practical Experience
Hands-on experience is invaluable in becoming a successful celebrant. During our courses, you’ll have opportunities to practise writing and delivering different aspects of various ceremonies, you’ll receive constructive feedback from experienced trainers, and participate in role-playing exercises. This practical approach ensures you are well-prepared to handle real-life situations with confidence and grace.
